February 2 to March 31, 2017
Artist Robin Hickman shares the story of her work and explores why playing with dolls still matters for adults. Following a playdate with a five year old cousin, Hickman realized something: She had never had black dolls as a child. Holding the dolls that looked like her, dressing and playing with them, was allowing her to release tremendous pain and opening the door to new levels of calm and creative energy. In DOLL POWER! Hickman's stunningly detailed photographs, installations, and narratives invite the viewer to learn more about her story and why she has made creating and uplifting dolls her life's work.
