Join friends, neighbors, and University staff in a day of family-friendly activities and events as UROC celebrates the artistic and philanthropic contributions of the late Prince Rogers Nelson at Prince Day at UROC from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 14. A list of the day's activities follow: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Let’s Go Crazy—with Art! Explore your creative side throughout the day with games and activities by artists Jazmine Darden, Angela Davis, Esther Osayande, and members of the Roho Artist Collective throughout the day 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Love Letters to Prince: An Installation A special gallery exhibit of letters, poems, and memories written by the members of the public and participants in UROC’s Witness Writing Workshop and co-curated by Robin Getsug and Melodee Strong. The public is invited to drop off writings at UROC by March 28 for inclusion in the exhibit. 10 a.m. Tell Me Something Good About Prince An intergenerational celebration of the life of Prince and his connections to North Minneapolis featuring artist Amoke Kubat of YO MAMA! Art of Mothering. 11 a.m. Love Letters to Prince: A Poetry Reading A poetry reading featuring local poets and participants in UROC’s Witness Writing Workshop. 1 p.m. Prince’s Legacy: A Family Value—Critical Conversation What role did the late Prince Rogers Nelson’s biological and extended families played in his musical development, philanthropic activities, and rise to superstar status? Explore the opportunities and barriers confronting caretakers and mentors outside of biological relationships and traditional family structures with people who knew and worked with Prince. The conversation will be moderated by Airport Foundation MSP’s Robyne Robinson and feature artists, residents, University researchers, and community experts. Reservations are requested. 2 p.m. Prince’s Legacy: A Family Value—Reception Join Critical Conversation panelists, community members, and University staff in a reception of Prince-inspired appetizers and music. All activities are free and open to the public, but reservations for the Critical Conversation are requested. Prince Day at UROC is an official kick-off event to the University of Minnesota’s two-day Prince from Minneapolis Symposium April 16-18, 2018.
