Northside-Southside: A Neighborhood History Series
A series of special events sponsored by UROC and The Friends of Hennepin County Library
October 1 through October 31

From exhibits to walking tours, film narrations, and conversations, Northside-Southside is a series of programs taking place in North and South Minneapolis that highlight lesser-known histories from opposite ends of Minneapolis. The events are free; registration is encouraged. Attendees are encouraged to attend programs at multiple locations in order to fully experience the series.

Bringing Back 6th

Walk to Imagine: 6th Avenue North
Sat., Oct. 19, 3:15 – 4 p.m. (Summit Academy OIC)
Join library and Our Streets staff members for a walk along Olson Memorial Highway. Reflect on the history of the community and envision the future. The walking tour begins and ends in the Summit Academy OIC parking lot.

Mapping Prejudice on 6th Avenue North
Tue., Oct. 15, 6 – 7:30 p.m. (UROC)
Sat., Oct. 19, 1 – 2:30 p.m. (Washburn Library)
Join Kirsten Delegard, co-founder of University of Minnesota’s Mapping Prejudice, and José Antonio Zayas Cabán, Executive Director of Our Streets, for a presentation and conversation about the history of 6th Ave N, the policies and practices that led to its destruction, and the future of the Northside and Olson Memorial Highway.

Explore Black history in South Minneapolis through film and live narration from award winning filmmaker Daniel Pierce Bergin.
