UROC Holiday Tree Exhibit: Hip-Hop’s Legacy Through the Decades

Date
December 2 - 30, 2024

Artist Alicia Smiley honors 50 years of hip-hop culture with a festive twist—mannequins, dressed in iconic hip-hop styles are transformed into a series of Christmas trees, adorned with vibrant graffiti-style ornaments, boomboxes, records, gold chains, and seasonal lights.

Each “tree” tells a story of hip-hop’s growth from an underground movement to a global cultural force. Through its bold fashions, unforgettable music, and self-expression, hip-hop has left an indelible mark on generations.

Explore the sights, sounds, and spirit of hip-hop through engaging, interactive features. Immerse yourself in music, visuals, and stories that highlight hip-hop’s influence and celebrate its roots in resilience and creativity.

The exhibit, located in UROC's main gallery, is free and open to the public.

A special reception featuring DJ Smiles spinning hip-hop classics is set for 6 to 7:30 p.m., Thursday, December 5. Light snacks and beverages will be provided.
