Policing in Minneapolis: Northside Voices community forum—5:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 10
The public is invited to "Policing in Minneapolis: Northside Voices," a community forum on the past, present, and future of policing in North Minneapolis. The event will build off a University of Minnesota research project that examines how neighborhood residents in North Minneapolis understand policing in the wake of the Movement for Black Lives and related local organizing. Presenters will discuss findings from a two-year study, which included interviews with more than 120 Northside residents about their perceptions of police, desires for police reform or transformation, and approaches to community safety and wellbeing. After a brief presentation of initial findings, community members will have the opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback on the results, and reflect on ways the community can use the findings to advance community needs.
The event will include the following:
5:30 to 5:40: Welcome and introduction of project and team
5:40 to 6:10: Presentation of findings from research project
6:10- to :20: Q and A from audience and reflections on future actions
7:20 to 7:30: Wrap up and plan for action
The event is free and open to the public, but registration is requested. Food and refreshments will be provided.
