MBA students from the University of Minnesota Carlson School's Carlson Ventures Enterprise (CVE) program have released the results of an opportunity analysis of market conditions for module housing and solar panel assembly in North Minneapolis. Commissioned by UROC's Northside Job Creation Team, the report contains the results of 34 industry interviews and analysis of 31 industry reports and finds that investment in North Minneapolis-based solar opportunities—including solar assembly and installation—could have a substantial job and economic impact.

Other key findings include:

  • Solar assembly and installation presents huge growth opportunity throughout the Midwest
  • Barriers are political, not market driven
  • Industry partners are vital to the project
  • Government incentives are essential to success

"The University's Carlson Ventures Enterprise team is excited to help provide a research backbone to the NJCT's market analysis for business opportunities in North Minneapolis," says Toby Nord, professional director of the CVE program. "The report, and its companion presentation, represents the type of quality work that our world-class MBAs provide businesses and non-profit throughout the Twin Cities."  CVE team members included MBA students Leah Baton, Kate Ingersoll, William Kyzer and Cam MacNamara.
