Measuring Structural Racism in Minnesota: A Call to Action—4:30 p.m. Thursday, March 18 via Zoom

Join University School of Public Health Associate Professor Rachel Hardeman in a virtual community conversation on what structural racism means for Black, Indigenous, and people of color in the Twin Cities urban areas and how it plays out in our lives. Hardeman is a 2020 UROC Research Agenda grant recipient for her project Operationalizing and Measuring Structural Racism in Minnesota, which aims to explore the measurement of the impact of structural racism in urban communities and document the ways that Black communities have been and are currently systemically disenfranchised.

Second Chance Saturday Criminal Expungement Clinic

Having a criminal record can have a significant impact on employment opportunities and other areas of you life. Law students are working with lawyers from the Council on Crime and Justice to conduct workshops for community members who have questions about how to overcome a criminal record. The workshops are at the University’s Robert J. Jones Urban Research Outreach-Engagement Center.

The UROC Research Agenda is a framework for healing, equity and financial well-being that addresses three themes that community members and University of Minnesota researchers and practitioners identified as being critical to a thriving North Minneapolis and Twin Cities urban core. The agenda and its corresponding annual award competition aim to stimulate and guide collaborative research in the topic areas while improving outcomes through robust, long-term partnerships.

Crafting Black Visual Narratives in a Post-Uprising America—7 p.m. January 28 via Zoom

Black artists and their work have never felt more in the spotlight than now, but that increased exposure brings with it a new set of questions. Join in a UROC-sponsored moderated conversation with photographers, painters and textile artists from the show as they reflect, explore and debate what it means to create Black art in America today. The event is open to the public and free of change, but registration is required.
